Vanessa Sorboen

Vanessa was born in South Africa but grew up in Cornwall. She also lived in France and then moved to Norfolk 10 years ago. Living in many different places has made Vanessa appreciate the varied landscapes and big skies that she loves to paint.

“I am always looking at light and shadows as I think it intensifies the colours in nature and it always gives a feeling of place, time and presence. Perspective in a painting always gives a feeling of movement - either to or from somewhere while capturing a moment in time.”

April 2024 saw the launch of a re-brand by Adnams Brewery, featuring stunning commissioned artworks by Vanessa. The re-brand was part of the Suffolk brewery’s 150th-anniversary celebrations and Vanessa was chosen to capture the history of some of their most famous recipes in incredible paintings, which were then used to create labels for the beers. An Adnams spokesperson said ‘Her ability to capture the landscape of Norfolk and Suffolk and impart that inherent sense of place, was crucial to the project and delivering our vision.’
